Grandfathers with maple syrup
Print RecipeIngredients
- 1 1/4 cup of flour
- 1 tablespoon of baking powder
- 1 pinch of salt
- 2 tablespoons of sugar
- 1/4 cup of softened butter
- 1/2 cup of milk
- 1 cup of water
- 2 cups of maple syrup
- Vanilla ice cream (optional)
Instructions
- In a fine mesh sieve placed over a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Add the softened butter and, using a pastry cutter or two knives, work the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs. Add the milk and mix until the dough is smooth.
- In a large saucepan, combine the water and maple syrup and bring to a boil. Drop the dough, about 1 tablespoon (15 ml) at a time, into the boiling syrup. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 15 minutes (do not lift the lid during cooking).
- When serving, drizzle the dumplings with syrup and top with a scoop of ice cream, if desired.
