General Tao's Chicken in the Slow Cooker
Ingredients
- 3 chicken breasts cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1/4 cup (65 ml) cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 cup (250 ml) hoisin sauce
- 4 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 4 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons pure sesame oil (optional)
- Green onion for garnish (optional)
- Sesame seeds
Instructions
- Add the chicken and cornstarch to a large ziplock bag. Shake well.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large saucepan.
- Sauté the chicken for about 2 minutes on each side. (It won’t be completely cooked and that’s OK)
- Add the chicken to the slow cooker.
- In a bowl, add the hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sugar and sesame oil. Mix well. Pour over the chicken.
- Cook on LOW for 2 to 3 hours.
- Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions.
- Serve over rice.
